eLearning Content Development

It never ceases to amaze me, the amount of emphasis that is constantly placed upon the technology for Distance Learning or the more contemporary term, eLearning. In the great number of years I have been in the Distance Learning business, as a professor and as a private business representative, the technology has consistently changed. However we have not provided adequate assistance in producing content in various eLearning technologies with any consistency that gives informational providers a confident approach to utilizing various forms of delivery.

Producing content, whether it is in a face-to-face mode or in various Distance Learning/eLearning modes, still remains an adventure. I would like to suggest that we start strategizing to reduce the adventure for various informational providers utilizing Distance Learning/eLearning technologies today.

All of us are consumers of mass media of some sort, whether it is television, film, radio or other forms of communication systems. The commercialization of programs, good bad or indifferent, has established what I would call program formats.

Talk television shows such as Jay Leno, Oprah Winfrey, David Letterman, the list goes on and on, each program has a very specific format. If we analyze the formats and utilize the formats based on the information delivery styles of informational providers as well as take into consideration how our audiences are receiving the information, we will find a great deal of repetition in the formats of these programs that are repeated time after time. A good example would be Jay Leno who does not change his program format, each evening he basically uses the same format and plugs new content into the format.

I would like to strongly suggest that we utilize program formats for our eLearning programs. And as part of this forum and exchange of ideas I would certainly like others to share successful program formats, or if you want to put it another way content development tools, that will consistently allow success for the informational providers as well as the receiver.

I'm looking forward to utilizing this opportunity to develop and share ideas to assist in more effectively developing content for the impact that are constantly approaching.

Thanks Lorne
